Why Make Your Own Jewelry

Making your own jewelry from scratch is immensely fun and it allows you to design something which is truly personal that nobody else has. It also allows you to use colors that suit you when it can sometimes be hard to find jewelry that you really like. I have been making my own jewelry, mainly earrings, for years, and I have always been complimented on it and sometimes friends have even paid me to make stuff for them. Failing that it makes for excellent birthday and Christmas presents, and everybody loves something which you have spent a little time making. If you are anything like me I find the whole process of making jewelry very therapeutic, it’s a hobby which I enjoy enormously and the finished results are always something I am very pleased with.

How Much to Spend on Making Your Own Jewelry

Costs can quickly add up depending on what materials you use and where you buy it. If you want to make necklaces then you can buy simple chains online or in art stores, and you can normally buy leather lace by the meter for very cheap. This is ideal for making bead bracelets and bead necklaces. If, like me, you want to make earrings then you will need to buy basic earring hooks and other findings, which are expensive if you are just getting them for a one off present, but if you intend on making a lot of jewelry you can buy in bulk and it brings the cost down hugely. Beads and charms are also quite costly, but it can be fun to find free natural components, like shells, which you can incorporate into your own handmade jewelry.

How to Make Your Own Jewelry

Making earrings is, for me a bit of a hobby. It’s really easy to make your own jewelry and there are tons of art stores which will sell you beads and findings for very cheap. You can even get hold of kits which will help you with making earrings and necklaces -where clips and hooks are sometimes more difficult to get hold of. There are no real rules to making your own jewelry, but it does give you a certain amount of freedom to do whatever you want and make stuff which you think suits you! If you are struggling for ideas or inspiration there are hundreds of websites out there with examples of hand made and homemade jewelry, and there are loads of video tutorials on how to make your own jewelry.
